What is the first step to getting new countertops?
Contact us for a free consultation, over the phone, via email, or at the Ravenel showroom near Charleston. We will go over your project with you, present a few samples, and assist you in deciding which countertop material is appropriate for your kitchen or bathroom.
How do I measure for an estimate?
If you want an approximate free estimate, you can give us the width and length of the countertop areas. But we do not require your measurements. Free measurements are given throughout Charleston and the Lowcountry. A specialist will come to your home, take laser measurements, and verify information, including sink locations and seam positions. We prefer to take out any old countertops before measuring, so that we can create the most accurate template, but if this is not the case, please notify us, and we will make plans accordingly.
Can I get an estimate even if I’m not ready to buy?
Absolutely. There are lots of homeowners who contact us early when they’re beginning to compare materials or draw up renovation plans. We don’t charge you anything for our estimates, so that you can use them to budget your plans, and then return when you’re ready to take the next step.
How is the price determined?
The price will vary according to the material used, the size of the job, the edge finish, any cut-outs for sinks and cooktops, and any customization options you request. There are no surprises; we always give you a clear, written estimate before we do anything.
Are stone countertops expensive?
This will depend on the material. Expect to pay approximately $75+ per square foot installed for quartz, though some colors may be available for slightly less at times. Natural stones, such as granite, marble, and quartzite, are more variable, with each slab being different and each color and supplier having a different price. The remnants are also a cost-effective choice for smaller-sized jobs.
What is your payment policy?
A deposit is required prior to placing an order for materials and scheduling fabrication, followed by the balance due at installation. We accept checks, bank transfer, Zelle, Venmo, and credit cards (a processing fee applies to credit card payments), and financing options are available if you wish to discuss these.

What materials do you offer?

What’s the difference between quartz and granite countertops?
Granite is a natural stone that comes directly from the earth, so each slab is unique and offers excellent heat resistance. Quartz is an engineered material made from natural quartz and resins. It offers a more consistent appearance and generally requires less maintenance than granite.
What is the difference between quartz and quartzite?
Despite their similar names, quartz and quartzite are very different materials. Quartz is an engineered material made from natural quartz and resins, creating a durable, low-maintenance surface with a consistent appearance. Quartzite is a 100% natural stone known for its durability, heat resistance, and unique natural patterns.
Do all stone countertops have the same durability?
No, the durability is different depending on the type of material. Both granite and quartzite are naturally hard, heat-resistant, and can last for decades with simple maintenance. Quartz is extremely durable and has good resistance to stains and scratches. Marble is softer and more porous than other types of stone, and therefore can be etched by acidic foods.
How do I choose the right stone?
The use of the space, the amount of maintenance, and the desired aesthetic are all issues that come into play. At your consultation, we will discuss samples with you and assist you with the durability, care, and cost of your stone to ensure you are choosing a stone you will enjoy for many years. Which countertop material requires the least maintenance?
Generally, quartz will need the least maintenance because it is not porous and will not need sealing. This surface is easy to clean with mild soap and water. It is a favorite choice for busy families.
Can I see the actual slab before placing my order?
Yes, you can always stop by our showroom and see the material first-hand before making a commitment. If a particular slab isn’t on hand, we can order it in so you can view it prior to committing to it.
What size do countertop slabs come in?
This will depend on the material. Generally, quartz is formed in large super jumbo slabs of approximately 138 x 79 inches, resulting in fewer seams, or none at all, in large islands and long counter runs. Natural stones such as granite, marble, and quartzite are often smaller slabs and might require a seam for larger layouts. We’ll review the available slab sizes with you in advance and discuss how they may affect the layout and seam placement.
Installation Details
How long does fabrication take?
Normal fabrication time is a week or two, depending on the material availability and project complexity.
How long does installation take?
Most Charleston area kitchens are installed in a single day. More complex or larger projects might take a bit longer, and we’ll be sure to inform you ahead of time.
Are my cabinets ready for installation?
Before we come, your cabinets must be level and structurally sound. Installation may need to be rescheduled if they are not ready on the day of installation, so be sure to check in advance with your contractor.
Do I need to be present during the measurement?
We recommend it, since this is the best time to confirm seam locations, overhangs, sink placement, and other details prior to fabrication. If you just can’t be there, we can work with you to get all the details sorted out in advance.
Will my countertop have visible seams?
It will depend on your space, the size of the slab, and the pattern that you use. In all cases, we arrange the placement of seams in the most inconspicuous manner; before fabrication begins, we will discuss with you where seams will be located.
Can I request a custom shape or edge profile?
Yes, custom shapes and edge profiles can be provided. Bring us your ideas during your consultation, and our team will work out the details with you.
Can I have an undermount sink with a stone countertop?
Yes, undermount sinks work well with granite, quartz, quartzite, and marble. They are a popular choice because of their clean, seamless appearance.
Do you install tile?
Yes, besides countertops, we put tile in bathrooms, showers, and backsplashes.
What other types of projects do you work on?
In addition to kitchen and bathroom countertops, we can install vanities, shower surrounds, fireplace surrounds, and tile.
Do you provide plumbing or electrical services?
We only work with stone fabrication and installation. Any plumbing work, including sink and faucet hookups, and electrical work should be performed by a licensed plumber or electrician, and we are happy to schedule this for your plumber or electrician.
Do you help remove and dispose of old countertops?
Yes, removing and disposing of your old countertops can be part of our service. Simply let us know in advance, and we will arrange for it and include it in your estimate.
Can I use stone countertops in a bathroom?
Definitely. Granite, quartz, marble, and quartzite all work well for bathroom vanities. Quartz is a common choice in bathrooms because it resists moisture and staining without needing to be sealed, while natural stones bring a warmer, more organic look.
Can stone countertops be used outdoors?
Definitely. Natural stone (granite, quartzite) and porcelain hold up to UV and heat, but quartz’s resin binder can discolor and fade in direct sun over time.
Are natural variations like veining, fissures, or small pits normal?
Yes. Veining, fissures, small pits, and natural color variation are characteristics of quarried stone, not defects. Each slab is one of a kind, and we encourage you to stop by and look at your actual slab before fabrication.
Care and Maintenance
Do I need to seal my countertop, and how often?
Typically, sealing of natural stone like granite, marble, and quartzite is best performed every 6 to 12 months. Unlike natural granite, engineered quartz is not porous and does not require any sealing. You’ll be informed about what is recommended for your material. The Marble Institute of America publishes detailed sealing and care guidance by stone type as well.
Can I place hot pots and pans directly on my countertop?
Granite and quartzite can withstand heat. Trivets or pads should be used on surfaces such as quartz and marble, which are more sensitive to direct heat.
How long do stone countertops last?
Natural stone such as granite and quartzite can last for decades with proper care and may even last the lifetime of your home. Engineered quartz is also extremely durable and long-lasting. Routine cleaning and periodic sealing for natural stone will keep your countertop looking its best for years.
How do I clean and care for my countertops?
Use mild dish soap, warm water, and a soft cloth for daily cleaning. Don’t use hard, acidic, or abrasive cleaners that can harm natural stone, particularly marble. Quartz is not porous and is very easy to maintain; granite, marble, and quartzite will need sealing every 6 to 12 months.
Warranty and Service
What does your warranty cover?
Installation is guaranteed for one year, and we stand by our workmanship. During this period, if there is any problem that pertains to our installation, we will repair it at no cost, and after the first year, repair services are still available for a fee. The warranty for this product is provided by the manufacturer or supplier, not us, and we will be delighted to assist you with any claims.
What should I inspect at the time of installation?
After installation, please inspect your new countertops very closely and notify us at once if you notice anything that is not as you expected. The earlier we can catch concerns, the easier it is for us to make it right.
Do you take on small jobs or remnant work?
Yes, we do remnant work, and there isn’t any minimum project size. From a full kitchen to a small powder room vanity, we are happy to assist you. The remnant is the leftover material from larger slabs and can be a cost-effective solution for smaller applications such as fireplace surrounds, bar tops, and vanities.
